"Hymn to beauty
Are you coming from the deep sky or are you coming out of the abyss,
O Beauty! your gaze, hellish and divine,
Confusedly pours out benefit and crime,
And for that we can compare you to wine.
You contain in your eye the setting sun and the dawn;
You spread perfumes like a stormy evening;
Your kisses are a potion and your mouth an amphora
Who make the cowardly hero and the brave child.
Are you coming out of the black abyss or are you descending from the stars?
Charmed Destiny follows your petticoats like a dog;
You randomly sow joy and disaster,
And you rule everything and answer for nothing.
You walk on the dead, Beauty, you laugh at;
Of your jewels, Horror is not the least charming,
And Murder, among your dearest charms,
On your proud belly dance lovingly.
The dazzled ephemeral flies towards you, candle,
Crackle, flame and say: Bless this torch!
The panting lover inclined to his beauty
Looks like a dying man caressing his tomb.
Whether you come from heaven or hell, whatever,
O Beauty! huge, scary, ingenuous monster!
If your eye, your mouse, your foot, open the door for me
Of an Infinite that I love and have never known?
Of Satan or of God, what does it matter? Angel or Mermaid,
What does it matter, if you return, - fairy with velvet eyes,
Rhythm, fragrance, glow, oh my only queen! -
The less hideous universe and less heavy moments? "
